Media Release: Appointment of a new Play Matters Australia Board Chair

Play Matters Australia is excited to announce that Jane McVeigh has been appointed as the new Board Chair, bringing with her over 25 years of strategic leadership experience in the engineering, property, and infrastructure industry, both in the public and private sectors. Jane has been serving as a Non-Executive Director on the Play Matters Board since 2016.

Jane is a highly qualified Chief Executive Officer and has significant experience working with a range of external stakeholders, including industry, community, and not-for-profit organisations, having worked on the community engagement and communications aspects of many major infrastructure projects across Australia and overseas.

Jane has led whole-of-government transformation, providing leadership and strategic guidance to more than 60 different government authorities and over 130 local councils. She holds a Graduate Diploma - Company Directors from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). Jane looks forward to leading the organisation into a new phase of growth and development.

Jane’s appointment comes after the resignation of Gloria Sherlock, who has served as Board Chair for a decade. During Gloria’s tenure, she contributed immensely to the growth and development of Play Matters Australia, and the Board are grateful for her leadership and guidance. Gloria’s journey began as a playgroup volunteer, a role she still holds to this day. She has been a passionate advocate for play and playgroups and has helped guide the organisation to unlock its potential.

The Play Matters Australia Board welcomes Jane to her new role as Board Chair and are inspired by her vision to give focus to the organisation's growth and service for families across Australia. Jane’s experience and expertise will be instrumental in helping Play Matters Australia achieve its goals and realise its vision of connected children, families, and communities.

This year, Play Matters celebrates 50 years of operations. Play Matters Australia is excited to embark on a new chapter under Jane's leadership, and the organisation looks forward to continuing its work and making a positive impact on children and families across Australia.
