At Play Matters, we’re enthusiastic about making play as accessible as possible for all children, and are passionate supporters of children’s rights, especially their right to play. We support the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, Article 31, ‘Every child has the right to rest, relax, play and to take part in cultural and creative activities.’ We know how important play is for children’s development, which is why we are striving for, and celebrating, all the ways we can support children to play, including delivering programs in as many communities as possible.
Play Matters Australia delivers a playgroup in Yarrabah, Queensland. At the Yarrabah playgroup, community and children have access to enriching play experiences, as local families come together to connect and engage in the fun. The playgroup, facilitated by local First Nations community members, is dedicated to supporting children to reach developmental milestones, create a socially supportive environment for parents, and bringing together the community. You can learn more about the Yarrabah playgroup in our video, from the mobile play system that works to provide children better access to play, to hearing all about what this playgroup means to the facilitators, parents, and community members.
This is proudly supported by Mission Australia Communities for Children, and proudly funded by the Australian Government's Department of Social Services.
