Tips to engaging babies in play
Play experiences are available for families with children birth to five years.
Play experiences should be:
- Safe
- Welcoming to parents
- Engaging for babies
To support babies within your play experience, ensure you provide:
- Soft mats/flooring
- Board books
- Nappy change and feeding spaces
- Age-appropriate toys
Other things you should consider:
- Place toys that have been mouthed into a tub to sanitise before being used by another baby
- Ensure things are set up so parents with babies and older children are able to supervise all children
- Encourage parents with babies to participate in group story/music time
- Encourage parents to take babies out of prams and interact with the baby-play area
Remember to access the activities within the facilitator portal for more ideas on creating a play space that supports babies across different developmental stages.
