How do I engage babies in my play experience?

Tips to engaging babies in play

Play experiences are available for families with children birth to five years.

Play experiences should be:

  • Safe
  • Welcoming to parents
  • Engaging for babies

To support babies within your play experience, ensure you provide:

  • Soft mats/flooring
  • Board books
  • Nappy change and feeding spaces
  • Age-appropriate toys

Other things you should consider:

  • Place toys that have been mouthed into a tub to sanitise before being used by another baby
  • Ensure things are set up so parents with babies and older children are able to supervise all children
  • Encourage parents with babies to participate in group story/music time
  • Encourage parents to take babies out of prams and interact with the baby-play area

Remember to access the activities within the facilitator portal for more ideas on creating a play space that supports babies across different developmental stages.
