About the theme

Play Matters harnesses the excitement and intrigue of sensory play in May to develop children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills.

Messy Play is all about children using their senses – particularly touch – in the process of exploration. The focus is on manipulating and moulding materials, rather than creating something specific.

While often viewed as fun and enriching, messy play can also be incredibly restorative and calming for children. Similarly, the open-ended nature of messy play allows for mastery orientation and self-expression.
