Welcome to Swayney Little Buddies Playgroup
Swayney Little Buddies Playgroup has just joined Play Matters this year and is positioned at Swayneville State School. It’s a small country area approximately 10kms south/west of Sarina. Our playgroup is made up of rural and regional families who come to us from a variety of cultures, both national and international. We run fortnightly sessions during the school terms and on average have 15 families attend. We provide a mix of structured and free play activities for babies through to 6 years. We are an all-inclusive playgroup and aim to provide activities for all ability levels. Each session is themed with visitors sometimes invited to help enhance the learning experience. We pride ourselves on the fun we have each session, dressing up and getting very involved. For example, we had the local Fire Brigade attend, we all dressed as firefighters and the children got hands on experience with the fire hose and climbing through the truck. It was AMAZING! We see playgroup as not only an opportunity for the children to play and socialise, but also for parents to support one another and make new friends. We are currently looking into inviting specialists along to speak to parents about a range of topics associated with early childhood development. For example, getting a child health nurse to visit and talk about the free support and developmental checks they can do, as well as the importance of these. Our aim with Playgroup is to broaden our school’s community, provide a space for pre-prep students to become familiar with the school and staff, and provide the community with a high-quality early childhood learning space. We ask that children please bring a hat, water bottle and snack for morning tea. Come along for a fun, friendly and relaxed morning. All welcome! Hope to see you soon :)

Types of play

Playgroup is for everyone. A regular meeting of families with their children aged 0-5, often with set up activities and invitations to play and families to connect. There are playgroups run by community (often volunteer-led), organisations (like schools) and specialist groups too, all supported by Play Matters.
